Iran’s Deputy Industry Minister

Worn-Out Vehicles Replaced Nationwide  65000

The Head of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) announced that a total of 65,000 worn-out vehicles have been scrapped and replaced with new ones nationwide, marking a 103 percent increase compared to the previous period.

According to IDRO News, Farshad Moghimi, Head of IDRO, stated at the ceremony marking the implementation of the National Taxi Fleet Renewal Plan that a number of the replacement vehicles were symbolically handed over to applicants in the presence of officials, expressing hope that improved service quality would further enhance public and passenger satisfaction.

He noted that the plan is currently being implemented in the provinces of Qom, Fars, and East Azerbaijan, adding that in Tehran, the process of loan disbursement and taxi delivery is underway.

Referring to the renewal of electric taxis in Tehran, Moghimi said that 46 electric taxis have so far been replaced, while 600 additional units, after receiving financing facilities, are in the process of being delivered to the capital.

He added that 7,779 taxis were renewed in 1404 (2025/26) under various programs. Overall, the total number of scrapped and replaced worn-out vehicles across the country has reached 65,000 units, reflecting 103 percent growth year-on-year.

Moghimi also pointed to regulatory requirements for automakers, stating that under the announced policies, 20 percent of automakers’ supply must be allocated to fleet renewal, a measure that can accelerate the scrappage and replacement process.

Regarding financial support, he said that IRR 1.2 billion in facilities has been allocated for electric taxis, while IRR 400 million had previously been considered for conventional taxis, which now requires revision due to changes in vehicle prices. He further noted that motorcycle renewal facilities have been increased from IRR 200 million to IRR 300 million to maintain applicants’ incentives under current economic conditions.

The Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade emphasized that scrappage and renewal is not a temporary process and should be pursued continuously, adding that renewal policies are not limited to road transport and also cover rail and maritime sectors under the framework of the Seventh Development Plan.

He concluded that, in addition to fuel consumption reductions of up to 50 percent in some replacement vehicles, attention must also be paid to platform upgrades and improved service delivery.
