Bioethanol production plant to be established in Kermanshah
The Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) has launched a project to establish a bioethanol production plant in cooperation with the private sector.
IDRO director for industrial investments, Gholamreza Keramatifard, stated that the plant is projected to produce 100,000-200,000 liters of bioethanol from agricultural waste.
Bioethanol is the best substitute for Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) to increase octane number in domestically-produced gasoline, he said, adding that the use of bioethanol is on the rise worldwide considering environmental hazards of MTBE. It can be combined with gasoline by 5 percent, he noted.
Considering the fact that over 60 million liters of gasoline is consumed in the country per day, at least three million tons of bioethanol is needed to be used instead of MTBE, he added.
The IDRO official went on to say that the organization designs its bioethanol production units so that they can use kinds of bagasse, palm tree waste, wheat, rice, and corn.
It should be noted that the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization also plans to establish another bioethanol production unit which will use sugar beet bagasse with the capacity of 10,000 liters per day in the Haft Tappeh Agro-Industry Company
