Dr. Norouzzadeh: Automotive Industry Has Potential to Attain Double Growth
Dr. Seyed Reza Norouzzadeh, the deputy minister of industry, mining, and trade as well as the chairman of the board of directors of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) said that infrastructural and engineering grounds are fully provided at present in the country for the industrial growth, especially in the automotive sector.According to the public relations department of IDRO, on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the TU3 engine production line in Iran KHodro, Dr. Seyed Reza Norouzzadeh said that the growth movement of the automotive industry started in 1997 after the establishment of the union of carmakers and then the establishment of designing and engineering companies, such as SAPCO. The movement started from manufacturing Peykan and continued with manufacturing a diverse range of products and improving quality of the products.Dr. Norouzzadeh added that over the past three decades the unauthorized importation of goods using foreign currency at low rates faced part makers and manufacturers with serious problems after foreign currency exchange rates rose later. The deputy minister of industry, mining, and trade went on to say that over the past two years the domestic car production fell sharply. Carmakers should regain the previous status at first and recover their production to the previous volumes and figures, he noted. For instance, Iran Khodro plans to manaufacture 600,000 cars this year. The company can materialize the goal of manufacturing the TU3 engine meeting world standards through implementing research and development plans, reducing costs and improving quality of products, he explained. The chairman of the board of directors of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran referred to the fact that engineering and infrastructural grounds are fully provided in the country, adding that with the stability which is seen in the market, manufactures should show their determination to attain significant progress.Dr. Norouzzadeh added that in the past huge investments were made when it had been planned to manufacture new models of cars instead of old models. But today, there is much less investment is required to manufacture new cars, he said. For example, the cost of manufacturing TU3 engine domestically has decreased 1,000 euros. He expressed hope that all the domestic manufacturers and managers cooperate with each other under support of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran to compensate the past deficiencies and move toward a bright future. It should be noted that the domestically-made low-consumption TU3 engine is projected to power Peugeot 206 type 2 cars.
