Dr. Norouzzadeh: Iran Is World’s Tenth Largest Consumer Market
Dr. Seyed Reza Norouzzadeh, the chairman of the board of directors of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) said that the Iranian market is the tenth largest consumer market in the world. Thanks to the positive atmosphere created as a result of prudent measure of the Iranian government, different groups of traders and manufacturers are coming to Iran.Dr. Norouzzadeh made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony for inaugurating a pick-up van production line at Bahman Motor Company. Dr. Shariatmadari, the vice president for executive affairs, also attended the ceremony. During the ceremony, Dr. Norouzzadeh said that we warmly welcome the presence of foreign investors, but foreign companies should not aim only to sell their products. They should see Iran as a base for manufacturing and exporting their products to the 300-million-people market of regional countries. He went on to say that despite the sanctions, Iran has progressed notably in recent years in human resources, as well as in technical and engineering fields. No other country in the region cannot compete with Iran in terms of security, potentiality, and resourced manpower, he added.Addressing foreign guests to the ceremony, he said that Iran could stand on their feet under the sanctions. “Despite all the problems, we could meet our needs. We have not even one financial obligation unmet in the world. So, Iran is a very reputable country in the financial sector,” he said.Elsewhere in his remarks, Dr. Norouzzadeh referred to recent challenges about the domestic car industry, saying that car is among goods which are needed. “If we do not manufacture high quality cars, we will have to import $14-15 billion of cars annually. This will be a huge burden on shoulders of the Iranian industries.” “Iranian car part manufacturers supply 220,000 billion rials of parts to the automotive sector. Large networks of manufacturers are working related to the car industry sector. So, this issue should not be easily neglected,” he said. The chairman of the board of directors of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran categorized critics of the car industry, saying: “Over the past years, carmakers have suffered huge losses, which led to disruptions and reduction in production. But, production has rapidly increased since the past year.”Last year, some 1.2 million cars were manufactured, he said, adding that the car industry will continue development with full strength.Dr. Norouzzadeh touched on the plan for car production in the current year, saying that production lags behind the targeted figure. But, production of cars rose last year compared to the same period in the preceding year.Dr. Norouzzadeh emphasized that people have the right to criticize. Without criticizing, no improvement will be realized. “We should brace for critics and move toward improving services both in quality and quantity,” he noted. According to him, just three after sale companies in the country hold the grade one certificate. The ministry of industry, mining, and trade is seriously planning to improve ranking of other companies and their services. The chairman of the board of directors of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran reiterated the need for improving the quality of services to customers.
