First indigenous 4MW turbo engine manufactured under IDRO support

The
first Iranian-made 4 megawatt (MW) turbo engine, which has been designed and
manufactured by Turbine Machine Middle East Company under support of the
Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) was unveiled
in the presence the chairman of the board of directors of IDRO and a number of
managers of both state-run and private sectors.

The
unveiling ceremony was held at the place of Turbine Machine Middle East Company.
Eng. Shafei, the chairman of the board of directors of IDRO, thanked all the
ones who had participated in designing and manufacturing the 4MW turbo engine.
We are all delighted to see that the country has achieved such a high
technology. We should inevitably move toward attaining such technologies in
which modern knowledge is embodied, he added.

Those
countries will be able to be present in the international arena that generate
indigenous knowledge, Shafei said, adding that it is source of honor that the
achieved technology has not been imported and is completely gained by domestic
experts.

Designing
and producing the 4MW turbo engine is a noteworthy example of cooperation
between industries, universities, and the government in creation of modern
technologies, he noted.

The
chairman of the board of directors of IDRO went on to say that one of the tasks
of the government is to support the private sector. To complete the chain of
turbo engines, IDRO will invest in producing combined heat and power (CHP)
generators in the commercial level, he said.

According
to Shafei, the technology which has been developed in Turbine Machine Middle
East Company is partially belonged to the company and is belonged to IDRO, as
well. The organization is ready to transfer the technology exclusively or
non-exclusively to the company or its partners, Shafei added.

Shafei,
who is also the deputy minister of industry, mines, and trade added that based
on approved plans, some $501 billion should be invested in oil and gas projects
by 2025 in the country. Some 60 percent of the sum, i.e. $300 million is
related to the procurement of equipment, which are mostly foreign-made. To
provide at least half of the equipment from domestic sources, planning and
investing are required, he said.

Eng.
Shafei went on to say that turbo engines are currently used in oil and gas,
aerospace, power and energy industries. Turbine Machine Middle East Company can
meet demands of all the three sectors, he noted.

He said
that a cluster comprised of 150 industrial companies has been formed to meet
demands of manufacturers to turbo engines. Designing and producing turbo
engines have absorbed expatriate engineers and experts and have prevented from
Iranian experienced engineers, as well, he further said.

The
chairman of the board of directors of IDRO expressed the hope that not only
designing and producing turbo engines would not be stopped but also it would be
expanded especially in the field of CHP. The Industrial Development and
Renovation Organization of Iran is ready to cooperate with the private sector
and invest in this field of industry, Shafei said.

It
should be noted that the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of
Iran embarked on investing in an applied research project in 2012 with the aim
of expanding technical knowledge and manufacturing a sample turbo engine for
power generators in the country. The investment was made based on a request
from Turbine Machine Middle East Company in line with national policies in the
field of energy to produce combined heat and power (CHP) generators.

Gas turbine is the
powerhouse of power generators and is the most essential part in high-tech
industries which manufacture combined heat and power (CHP) generators. In
this line, manufacturing a 4MW turbo engine was planned, so that 95 percent of
its components have been domestically produced to date.

The great achievement
of the project is the acquisition of the knowledge to assemble parts and
components in a turbo engine which is necessary for power generators.
Beneficiaries of the project include energy, wood, paper, steel, construction,
and aluminum, as well as fuel conservation industries.
