IDRO, private sector jointly launch advanced carbon fiber production line
For the first time in the country, an advanced
carbon fiber production line was launched in Gilan province through a joint
investment made by the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of
Iran (IDRO) and the private sector. The production line has a capacity to
produce 150 tons of advanced carbon fibers per year.
Mr. Mohammad Reza Firouzmanesh, the director
of biotechnology and advanced material department of IDRO, said that the
establishment of the advanced carbon fiber production line, which is among the
high-tech plans of IDRO, started in the second half of the past Iranian
calendar year 1392 (March 2013-March 2014). The production line has just
started trial production, he added.
Some 884 billion rials (about $33 million) has
been invested in the project, which is aimed at producing advanced carbon
fibers domestically using indigenized technology, he said, adding that advanced
carbon fibers are used in different industries, such as the car industry and
the sports industry, and for reinforcing buildings, tunnels, and bridges
against earthquakes.
According to him, the advanced carbon fiber
production line will be officially inaugurated at the presence of senior
provincial and national officials.
It should be noted that carbon
fiber is among advanced fibers the technology of which is held just by a few
countries. Carbon fibers used to be imported so far from other countries at
high costs. But, Iranian experts have just started producing carbon fibers
benefiting from indigenized technologies.
Carbon fiber has a tensile strength almost 7-10 times greater than that
of steel, yet is 4.5 times less dense and is produced at more reasonable prices
considering their high efficiency.
