The contract for designing and manufacturing hybrid cars is one of the four major national plans in the field of technology which was signed in the national conference titled science and application in the presence of president Ahmadinejad by the industry and mine minister and the President's deputy for technological affairs.

According to the public relations department of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO), Mr. Majid Hedayat, the chairman of the board of directors, stated that IDRO heads the executive committee responsible for the plan which is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The deputy industry and mine minister added that the contract was worth 90 billion rials. The industry and mine ministry, IDRO and Iran Khodro will secure 60 billion rials of the sum, he said, adding that the rest will be provided by the president's deputy for technological affairs. Hedayat also asserted that according to the contract, three samples of the hybrid car will be introduced to car making industries to be produced in large scale.

Hybrid cars are equipped with a dual fueling system which supplies both fossil and electrical energies through batteries which are used in the cars. Hybrid cars reduce energy consumption and prevent from environmental pollutions.
