IDRO invests in producing 6 highly used catalysts in domestic industries
Under support of the Industrial Development and
Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO), Sarv Knowledge-Based Oil and Gas
Industries Development Company managed to produce six catalysts, which are
highly used in domestic industries.
The director for applied research and
technology at the organization made the announcement, adding that 130 tons of
one of the catalysts, which are used in the steelmaking industry, has been
produced, and has been loaded in Isfahan’s Mobarakeh Steel Company.
Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Zahraei added that the
steel complex is going to use Iranian-made catalyst for the first time in the
country for steelmaking. To date, Iranian steelmakers in direct reduction
method were used to provide their needed catalysts from foreign suppliers which
produced catalysts under the license of a U.S. company, he explained.
At present, domestic producers need some 700
tons of this kind of catalyst. Launching eight steel projects will increase the
need to over one thousand ton per year, he said.
According to him, producing the catalyst
domestically will lead to the country’s self-sufficiency and will create 200
direct jobs. It will also save $15 million annually, he concluded.
