The chairman of the board of directors of Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) announced that the organization has so far spent 220 billion rials to renovate and revamp Haft Tappeh Agro-Industry Company, and that the sum should be reimbursed by the government.

During a visit to Haft Tappeh Agro-Industry Company, IDRO chairman Gholamreza Shafei said that Haft Tappeh Agro-Industry Company is the oldest sugar production unit in the country. It was established some half a century ago. It was getting worn out, so it was transferred to IDRO to be renovated, he added.

The company has the annual production capacity of 100,000 tons, he said, adding that the company has yet to reach its full capacity and the renovation process is underway by IDRO. 

Haft Tappeh Agro-Industry Company owns lots of land for expansion purposes. If a sufficient source of water is provided, IDRO will be ready to renovate the company fully relying on domestic experts in the fields of tools, equipment and machinery, and reach the company’s production capacity to 150,000 tons per year, he noted.   

 Shafei, who is also the deputy industry, mine and trade minister, said that once the bioethanol production unit from bagasse – which is among sugar cane wastes – comes on stream, it will produce 10,000 tons of bioethanol per day, which can be supplied to be used as fuel for cars.

Shafei referred to the national sugar production capacity, saying that there is no surplus sugar for the time being to be exported. IDRO has developed a plan for raising sugar output and has submitted the plan to the industry, mine and trade ministry. 

IDRO chairman Shafei paid a visit along with a number of the organization’s managers and local authorities to Haft Tappeh Agro-Industry Company and get informed of operations which are underway to renovate the company.
