IDRO to Acquire Nanoclay Technology

For the first time in Iran in cooperation with Islamic Azad University
IDRO to Acquire Nanoclay Technology
The director of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) for technological development affairs has said that the organization is making investment in cooperation with the Islamic Azad University to acquire Nanoclay technology for the first time in the country.
Mehrdad Mozaffari added that once the technology is acquired, a project with the goal of producing 57 tons of Nanoclay per year will be launched by IDRO in cooperation with the Nanopolymer laboratory of the Technical-Engineering Faculty of the Sciences and Research Branch of the Islamic Azad University.
Results of studies about specifications of the product in laboratories and preliminary tests have shown that using local clays enhanced Nanoclays can be produced which are much more expanded in layers compared with foreign-made products, Mozaffari said, adding that attaining an inter-layer space of about 4 nanometers, as the maximum expected inter-layer space, was among the positive results of the study.
Advanced researches have been focused on materials, mainly on manufacturing Nanocomposites and enhancing their specifications, he added. “The annual growth of 20 percent in consuming Nanocomposites in the world indicates that such materials are substituting other materials in different industries.”
According to him, among all the products based on Nanocomposites, those products which are produced base don Nanoclays are of special specifications, easy access, and reasonable prices. So, they are of significant importance and the development of researches in the field of consumption and production as well as planning by industrial units for supplying Nanocomposite products have led to feeling the need for producing Nanoclays to attain a key chain in producing Nanocomposites in the country.
The director of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization said that studies showed that Nanoclays hold a 70 percent share in the Nanocomposites market and their consumption has been on the rise in recent years, so that its consumption growth rate is expected to reach 30 percent, grabbing a lion’s share of the market by the next ten year.
