Over 40 percent of houses constructed in Iran using industrialized methods
The share of industrialized housing in the first year of the fifth five-year development plan hit 42 percent, which was 22 percent more than the figure which has been envisaged by the plan, the manager of the national industrialized housing plan stated.
The IRNA News Agency quoted a report by the website of the MAPSA, the company in charge of management of Iranian construction projects, as saying that some 79,000 units of the total 97,000 units in the Mehr housing plan, equaling 82 percent, have been built using industrialized housing methods.
The government has allocated 250 million rials in banking loans to be paid to each residential unit which is built using industrialized methods. This is the highest figure compared to semi-industrialized and traditional methods.
According to the report, just three percent of houses had been built using industrialized methods by 2009.
The managing director of MAPSA has said that domestic contractors have gained such capability in industrialized construction that they have the capacity to meet all demands of the country’s housing sector at the least cost and most productivity without the need to import specific items from certain countries.
Ali Azad added that some of contractors in this field embarked on exporting technical and engineering services to the neighboring countries. In the current year, which has been named the year of national production, construction material production units and industrial housing agents should be specially supported in order to expand markets and take advantage of vacant capacities in this sector.
The managing director of MAPSA emphasized on making the most of naming the current year toward reaching self-sufficiency in domestic production. To this end, a major portion of residential building construction activities should be done using industrialized methods.
