Gholamreza Shafei was appointed as the new chairman of the board of directors of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO).

Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari named Shafei as the new IDRO chairman.

Shafei was born in 1951 in the city of Marand, located in East Azarbaijan Province. He received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanics Engineering from Sharif University in 1975 and was installed as the head of the National Industries Organization in 1981.

During 1983-84, Shafei served as the deputy industry minister between 1964 and 1989.

Till 1992, Shafei worked as the deputy head of the Budget and Planning Organization and then he was assigned as the cooperatives minister.

Thereafter, he was named the minister of industry and served in this position till 2000. Then, he was appointed as the advisor to the president and then worked as the ambassador to Russia for four years.
